Will Immortality Be Possible One Day ?
It is a fact that, this is a very complex issue. Biological processes which includes cell structures and genetic material are very specific, complex and awesome mechanisms.
The answer is, If we can find a way to protect and improve the length of our telomeres: We hope, Probably: Yes
One of the most important factors are; telomers. Telomers are strongly related with someones aging related genetical factors and process and potential factors about growing and adulting, aging periods of someone for any alive. It can be said that length of these telomers an important factor for defining the aging related factors and aging related potential life spans.
Briefly it can be said that all cells actually all genetic materials are surrounded by telomers at the end of chromatins of DNA. These structures protects the DNA and protects our genetic related cell structures in some way from the external factors and damages.
Telomeres are sections of DNA found at the ends of each of our chromosomes. They are compound and repetitive DNA sequences at the end of a chromosome. If they become too short, a cell may not divide successfully and this situation may be a risk for vital life functions.
The some studies show that these telomers are getting shorter during time and these shortenings on telomers seems strongly related with aging periods.
It shows that in each division and multipication of cells, which is also quite essential for our lifes and to stay alive and essential for contiuning our vital life functions, telomers are getting a little bit shorter and this continues during our lifes.
Also some other factors as healthy sleeping, nutrition, stress levels may positively or negatively effect the length of these telomeres.
Why cell divisions are essential in our bodies ?
As we know all of us growth from the one cell, after egg and sperm fertilated each other; zigot and the our body cells start to divide and multiply themselves and differantiate in some ways in terms of activation of some gene groups and these various active gene groups in each cells effect the differentiation our body parts in terms of cells, tissues, organs, body parts and systems of our bodies.
In adulthood these cell divisions during our all life time functions as renewing our cells and body.
So this is very essential processes and also related with metabolic activities of our bodies.
Altough all of these factors, telomers may continue shorten a little bit at each divisions. Actually as a result of methabolism not only related with cell divisions. Lots of factors effect the shorten of telomeres and these are some complex mechanisms. It would be wrong to only relate these telomare shortenings with the cell division related factors.
However it can be said that these shortenings in telomeres are strongly related with the aging related processes.
How to protect or increase the lenght of these telomeres ?
Actually an enzyme which called “telomerase” may be effective to protect and in some aspects increase the length of these telomeres which are at the end of chrmosomes and protect them and contribute the DNA related metabolic activities of cells and so on. This enzyme called “telomerase” adds those repeats(genetical materials and repetitive structure of telomeres) back so the telomere doesn’t get too short.
On the other hand use of this enzyme except its already natural existence in our bodies, may increase the risk of cancer and may trigger some cancer cells in some situations.
However this situation may sound as a negative situation, there is a tricky detail about enabling the protection and increases of these telomeres. Some studies show that some cells may behave different and may have different various biological features.
Also it is a fact that some cells are still multiplying and renew themselves. Some cancer cells which derived from the cells of a cancer patient, are still alive and dividing since 1951 in the conditions which called the cells cultured from other human cells would only survive a few days.
It is known as HeLa cells and they’re still renewing themselves and multiplying so it is being called as “immortal cells”, “immortalized cell line”.
Of course it is sad that existence of diseases, losses, deaths. When it comes to use of telomerase enzyme, it seems risky for alives in terms of cancer related risks.
However, One day if we can find a safe way for us, for all loved ones to protect, increase and rebuild our telomeres, we would be one step closer to immortality.
Some situations shows us existence of some immortal cells also in some other species as some jellyfishes and sea alives. So existence, explorations and inventions these kind of alives and mechanisms may offer us some reasearch areas for some genetic structures and components.
Existence and explorations of these kind of immortal alives and cells still remain as a hope for future inventions, researches and studies.
So now let’s start to research, invent and develop more. It’s time to make life better and more beautiful for everyone in every breath that we take.
