How to make Pasta Sauces ?

 

There are numerous and various pasta(macaroni) sauces that are widely recognized and enjoyed around the world. Here are some of the most well-known pasta sauces:

Note that, Ingredient lists may be variable, you can do the sauces with which ingredients that you have or you have the access. Don’t stress If you don’t have some of the components. You can try to do some variations of these recipes and you may try to do variations.

 

MARINARA SAUCE

Marinara Sauce: This classic Italian sauce is made with tomatoes, garlic, onions, and herbs such as basil and oregano.

Required Ingredients:   (Ingredient lists may be variable for all recipes, you can do the sauces with which ingredients that you have or you have the access)

  • Olive oil
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Dried basil
  • Dried oregano
  • Sugar (optional)

 

BOLOGNESE SAUCE

 

Bolognese Sauce: Also known as ragù alla bolognese, this sauce originates from the city of Bologna in Italy. It’s a meat-based sauce typically made with ground beef or pork, tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery, and various seasonings.

Ingredients:

  • Olive oil
  • Onion
  • Carrot
  • Celery
  • Ground
  • Garlic
  • Tomato paste
  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Dried basil
  • Dried oregano
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Bay leaf

How to make Bolognese Sauce ?

  • In a large pan, heat olive oil and sauté finely chopped onions, carrots, and celery until they soften.
  • Add ground breaking it into small pieces.
  • Stir in minced garlic and tomato paste, and cook for a minute.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and a bay leaf.
  • Simmer the sauce on low heat for at least 1-2 hours to develop flavors, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust the seasoning and serve over cooked pasta.

 

ALFREDO SAUCE

Alfredo Sauce: Named after the Italian chef Alfredo di Lelio, this creamy sauce is made with butter, Parmesan cheese, and heavy cream. It’s often served with fettuccine.

Ingredients:

  • Butter
  • Heavy cream
  • Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic (optional)
  • Nutmeg (optional)

How to make Alfredo Sauce ?

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  • Gradually whisk in grated Parmesan cheese until it melts and the sauce becomes creamy.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Optional: You can add minced garlic or a pinch of nutmeg for additional flavor.
  • Toss the sauce with cooked fettuccine or your choice of pasta and serve immediately.

PESTO SAUCE

Pesto Sauce: Originating from the Liguria region of Italy, pesto is a vibrant sauce made with fresh basil leaves, pine nuts, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. It’s commonly tossed with pasta such as spaghetti or linguine.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Pine nuts
  • Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Olive oil

How to make Pesto Sauce ?

  • In a food processor, combine fresh basil leaves, pine nuts, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt.
  • Pulse the ingredients while drizzling olive oil slowly until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  • Toss the pesto sauce with cooked pasta and serve.

CARBONARA SAUCE

Carbonara Sauce:  This Italian sauce is made with eggs, Pecorino Romano cheese, and black pepper. The heat from the cooked pasta creates a creamy sauce when combined with the egg mixture.

Ingredients: (Vegeterian version)

  • Spaghetti or linguine pasta
  • Eggs
  • Pecorino Romano cheese (grated)
  • Black pepper

How to make Carbonara Sauce ?

  • Cook spaghetti or linguine pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve some pasta cooking water.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, grated Pecorino Romano cheese, and freshly ground black pepper until well combined.
  • In a large skillet, cook pancetta or guanciale over medium heat until crispy and golden brown.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and add the cooked pasta directly into the skillet with the pancetta. Toss to combine.
  • Immediately pour the egg and cheese mixture over the pasta and quickly toss everything together until the eggs thicken and coat the pasta. The residual heat will cook the eggs.
  • If the sauce is too thick, gradually add some of the reserved pasta cooking water to achieve a creamy consistency.
  • Season with additional black pepper and grated cheese if desired. Serve immediately.

ARRABIATA SAUCE

Arrabbiata Sauce: Arrabbiata, meaning “angry” in Italian, is a spicy tomato-based sauce made with tomatoes, garlic, red chili flakes, and olive oil. It adds a fiery kick to pasta dishes.

Ingredients:

  • Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • Red chili flakes
  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Salt

 How to make Arrabiata Sauce ?

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and red chili flakes to the pan and cook for a minute until the garlic becomes fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and season with salt. Stir well.
  • Simmer the sauce over low heat for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Adjust the seasoning if needed. If the sauce is too spicy, you can add a touch of sugar to balance the heat.

PUTTANESCA SAUCE

Puttanesca Sauce: Originating from Naples, Italy, puttanesca sauce is a flavorful combination of tomatoes, olives, capers, garlic, anchovies, and herbs. It’s known for its bold and savory taste.

Ingredients:

  • Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • Anchovies
  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Olives (black or Kalamata)
  • Capers
  • Red chili flakes (optional)
  • Dried oregano (optional)

How to make Puttanesca Sauce ?

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and anchovies to the skillet. Cook, stirring, until the anchovies dissolve into the oil.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Add pitted and chopped olives, capers, and a pinch of red chili flakes and dried oregano (if desired). Stir well.
  • Continue simmering the sauce for another 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning. The sauce is usually salty due to the anchovies and capers, so additional salt may not be necessary.
  • Serve the puttanesca sauce over cooked pasta, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

VODKA SAUCE
